The fitness industry is ever-evolving. Having entered into this career in 2007, I have seen the industry change rapidly while also witnessing many coaches come and go. The turnover rate of personal trainers is honestly mind blowing!. Up to 90% of personal trainers quit within their first few years.
Yes, I said 90%.
I want to fix this!
People desperately need guidance with their nutrition and training, so there has never been a better time than NOW to enter into a career in fitness.
Here are a few key reasons becoming a personal trainer can be a great career move!
1 – IT ALLOWS YOU TO FOLLOW YOUR PASSION
If you ever watch old movies or talk to your parents about growing up in their day, they’d tell you that once you graduated school, life was pretty much going off to college to get a degree and to work a standard job. Even when I became a PT in 2007, it was seen as a niche area. My family did not understand it. People thought it was a dead-end job where you walk around the gym cleaning equipment and talking to people on the gym floor. Entrepreneurs were unheard of, and following your passion wasn’t an option. But, in 2022, it’s never been easier to follow your passion if your passion is fitness! Now, more than ever before, it is possible to work in a field you thoroughly enjoy and at the same time have the potential to be paid well.
2 – THE WORLD NEEDS YOU RIGHT NOW
When I began as a PT in 2007, people didn’t view personal trainers as an investment but rather a cost. It was seen as a luxury. Today, people see that investing in themselves is the best investment they will ever make. People realise that personal trainers are experts in their field the same way an accountant is viewed as an expert in their area. I’m not an accountant, so I have my accountant when it’s tax time. If I want to build muscle, get stronger, or lose body fat, I know that a personal trainer can help me do that.
People want to seek out help. They want to get results, but they also need YOUR help! Despite the education growing around the planet, we face more and more health and weight issues. If there was ever a time that a personal trainer could genuinely add value to those in their community, now is that time.
3 – THE INDUSTRY CONTINUES TO GROW EXPONENTIALLY
Something you hear a lot is that the fitness industry is saturated. Well, the truth is, the world is saturated in all aspects. Populations are multiplying. Yes, there are a lot of trainers out there, and it’s growing but remember, 90% of personal trainers don’t make it past their first few years of business. But, while huge amounts of PT’s leave the profession, the fitness community, in general, is growing even more rapidly. So for every PT who leaves the industry, there are 100s of others signing up to their local gyms worldwide, which means we NEED more personal trainers.
But let’s get back to the point about the industry being saturated.
Just because there are many people in any field does not mean there are a lot of good personal trainers. Unfortunately, there are a lot of bad uneducated coaches out there. I am sure you have seen those types in your local gym.
This should excite you!
Not deter you.
There is a lot of mediocrity out there, and people who invest wisely in their careers gives them a great chance to stand out in the crowd.
See this as a chance to be a part of this growth and accelerate the speed you hit your goals in life by being a part of it. It’s always easier to sail with the wind, not against it. So embrace the incredible growth in the industry by being a part of it now!
4 – IT’S REWARDING
I have trained many clients face-to-face in a gym for over a decade. I remember conversations from many of my corporate clients who often said that they felt unfilled despite being paid well in their jobs. I used to find it quite strange that a client would turn up to train with me in their fancy car, coming from their high paying job and often wish they were in the opposite position. Regardless of how financially successful you are, you will struggle if you don’t love what you do. One of the most fulfilling components of being a personal trainer is changing lives and seeing people change in front of you weekly. Take a doctor; a patient comes to them with an issue. The doctor prescribes medicine. Hopefully, the doctor leaves and won’t need to see the patient again. That’s it, whereas being a personal trainer, you get to witness their progression in the gym before your eyes. It is often a slow process, but you see your client develop and progress over 10-12 weeks each week, whether that goal is physical, like being stronger or building muscle. Or, for many clients, it’s in the enjoyment of taking control of their health and going from week one in the gym, where your client often dreads their session with you, to a mind-blowing transformation.
THAT! It is rewarding. As personal trainers, we can watch and observe our clients’ rapid progression. Not much more rewarding a profession than witnessing your ability to help improve someone’s quality of life.
5 – IT’S DIFFERENT TO A 9-5
Once you enter the workforce, most of you are destined to work the standard 9-5 job. You begin work at 9 am and work hard all day, hoping you may potentially be out of the office and on the way home by 5 pm. Standard! Standard is fine. But, the standard is not for everyone either. The power of personal training is that your work time is far more flexible. You create your hours. Sure, your clientele will have specific availability to train. But, this does not mean forever working on someone else’s time frame. Initially, trainers will be busy when clients hit the gym before their workday begins. Or after clients have finished in the office. Then, they make their way into work with you. However, your coaching level becomes more sorted out as your career advances. You can start to structure your day to suit your preferred schedule. In my final years of working full time as a face to face personal trainer, I was purely working mornings. I would start early with clients and work my way through to lunchtime. I would front load my diary, which allowed me to work on other things or have a social life in the afternoons and nights. Other trainers, I know, hate mornings! They backload their diary and prefer to have their sessions with clients mid-morning and work later in the day. As your career progresses, the beauty is you will find clients who bet suit your schedule. Initially, yes, I’m not going to lie to you. You will be at the mercy of your clients. They are paying, and you are after sessions! But, this is not forever. As you progress through the industry, you begin to have the ability to dictate your schedule. Something most high up corporate jobs don’t even allow you to do.
With all of that said, we cannot ignore that the turnover rate of personal trainers is more than 90%, which is why I wanted to create something that changed the game for aspiring personal trainers.
What is my solution?
WELCOME TO CARROLL PERFORMANCE!
I have been a personal trainer for 15 years now, and the most common statement I hear around becoming qualified to be a personal trainer with a cert 3 and 4 in fitness is that “the course did not teach me anything.” And then you hear the statement, “you purely do these for the certifications; the learning begins after.”
Well, I wanted to fix this!
Any course you dive into should always offer value!
I truly believe many people rush through these courses and miss out on quality info. There is also a strict government standard of what needs to be taught. But, I have also added a lot to this. I have filmed video after video for you all with a wide variety of educational content, from training nutrition to helping you choose the best place to start as a personal trainer. The goal is to create my own Cert 3 and 4 in fitness and qualify coaches around the world. It is not to have trainers entering the industry having their certifications and feeling lost. I want trainers to enter this industry with a head start on their competition. This is why my brother, Glen Carroll and I built Carroll Performance. We want to give you the confidence to have the skills to help clients and build a career in this industry that lasts.
I felt strongly about this enough to spend serious time diving into creating these courses as I knew I had something to offer. My brother and I have been very fortunate to build very successful careers and businesses in the fitness industry. A level of which is quite rare. I desperately want to show aspiring personal trainers that they can build a quality life out of the fitness industry with hard work, dedication and a hunger for learning. I am a massive believer that those who want to succeed will find a way.
Through The Carroll Performance Fast Track Personal Trainer Certification, you will be a step ahead of your competition, ready to make a lasting impact in the fitness industry!
